The end of the year comes with a lot of noise — holidays, deadlines, and pressure that doesn’t really serve custom guitar work. Once that clears, winter and early January quietly become one of the best windows to take care of your guitar properly.

It’s also a good moment to pause and say thank you. This past year has been a strong one here, and I’m genuinely grateful for the players and builders who continue to trust Terrapin Guitars with their projects.

This is the stretch before music shows, trade shows, spring builds, and summer projects start stacking up. It’s when players and builders have a little breathing room to get things dialed in instead of rushed.

Being indoors more during winter is actually ideal for guitar upgrades. It’s a great time to:

• Upgrade or redesign a pickguard
• Create or refine a template
• Add custom engraving or details
• Address fit, alignment, or long-planned changes

These are the kinds of projects that benefit from attention, not urgency.

January also lines up with the NAMM show, which naturally gets builders thinking ahead about materials, designs, and parts they want ready before spring and summer momentum hits.
