CUSTOM PICKGUARDS FOR ELECTRIC, ACOUSTIC & BASS GUITARS

How to Make a Tracing

How to Make a Tracing

  • Remove the pick guard from the guitar. Remove all of the hardware from the pick guard so you just have the pick guard left.
  • Lay it down on a white piece of paper of standard computer printer paper. You can tape two pieces together if needed.
  • Hold the pick guard firmly against the paper. Using a sharp pencil or sharp tipped pen, (NO fat markers, felt tip pens or crayons please) trace the outline of the pick guard as accurately as possible including all of the holes.
  • Please do NOT trace your pick guard on cardboard or any other opaque paper or thin tracing paper. Again, use a sharp pencil or sharp tipped pen and NO fat markers, felt tip pens or crayons.  Thicker paper, thin tracing paper and other non-standard computer printer paper as well as thicker lines caused by markers can cause inaccuracy in creating a template from the tracing.  DO not cut out the tracing
  • Providing an original pickguard, mailed to us, will yield a more accurate result as well as the template is matched to the original to assure the accuracy.
  • The tracing must reflect the desired result so trace the pickguard as it currently, then mark, note and write on the tracing the changes, specifications and alterations requested. Write on the tracing what kind of Guitar or Bass the pick guard is from, including the year it was made if known.
  • AND finally please include your name, address, phone number and e-mail with the tracing or original pickguard and any emails regarding the pickguard or order.  We need to be able to contact you to complete the order.

Mailing the original guitar part is the best way to create an accurate template.  We can then use the original pickguard to make sure the template (and ultimately the fabricated pickguard) to check the accuracy.  What we are looking for are the mounting holes correct, outside perimeter accurate, bridge cut and neck cut are correct.  It is important for everything to line up and be correct because just a little off can create a fit issue.  Feel free to contact us if there are any questions.
